Alice Rayman

head of community engagement (maternity cover)

Alice is a joyful creative leader and participatory arts specialist who’s spent over fifteen years championing inclusive and community theatre. Her work is rooted in the belief that creativity builds belonging - that every person, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves the right to access the magic of theatre and the arts.

Before joining Phosphoros Theatre, Alice spent more than a decade at SAVVY Theatre Company, where she grew from freelance facilitator to Creative Director. During her time there, she built award-winning participatory programmes, led large-scale immersive productions, and helped shape SAVVY's inclusive, community-centred approach to theatre-making.

As a consultant and trainer, she’s worked with organisations across the UK and internationally, including the Marlowe Theatre, Action for Children’s Arts, Blue Apple Festival, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures and Emory University (USA) - supporting teams to make creative spaces kinder and more inclusive.

Alice learned her craft through experience - in rehearsal rooms, community spaces and on the job. She’s a fierce advocate for alternative routes into the arts and for breaking down barriers to creative careers. Alongside her professional work, she is also a carer, bringing real-life understanding to her approach to inclusion and wellbeing.

Outside of theatre life, Alice writes and illustrates under the name Bumblings by Bumble, creating playful stories and poems that celebrate imagination and joy for little ones and big ones alike!
