phosphoros sisters
Phosphoros Sisters is our creative project for women and girls aged 16-25. We work with the ‘Sisters’ in a number of ways:
Intensive creative projects in college holidays to create performances to share
Creative residential trips
One-off and series of workshops for other organisations
Our next Phosphoros Sisters project will start in Autumn 2025. If you are interested in taking part, please email kate@phosphorostheatre.com. We are currently looking for partner organisations for this project, so please get in touch if you have an active group who would enjoy working with us.
What we’ve done so far
In 2021, we began our women-only projects, beginning with a summer residential in Derbyshire where 6 young women explored themes of friendship and creativity through drama.
In 2022, we have run workshops across London with partners such as the Baytree Centre where we saw young women make brave, bold and creative choices. The group took part in an intensive and performed a new piece of theatre.
In 2023 the group came together again and went on a residential trip to research and develop new ideas around themes such as feminism, the patriarchy, power, identity, womanhood and individuality. This resulted in their second production shared at the Roundhouse Theatre.
In 2024 we ran a series of workshops for partner organisations, then did an intensive half term project and summer residential. We explored healing, care and sisterhood and spent time in nature. We created a short film and accompanying performance of poetry, dance, and new writing which we performed at Theatro Technis.
In 2025 we are supporting Sara, one of the group’s original members, to develop as an applied theatre artist through our Artist Development programme. Sara will be leading the 2025 Phosphoros Sisters project.
“I used to dream one day I will be with a group of sisters and we will talk and prove how strong we are. I can say with Phosphoros Sisters my dream became true.”
