’I feel proud simply showing up. Being seen and seeing others makes every moment more meaningful’
We host a monthly meet-up for creative refugees and asylum seekers aged 16-25 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, or questioning their gender or sexual orientation. This is a queer-led space set up in response to a growing need amongst young, LGBTQIA+ refugees to have creative outlets and fun activities to engage in.
On the first Saturday of each month we have a workshop or cultural trip. We visit art galleries, museums, theatre performances and more - all with a queer theme, selected by group members. Recent activities have included Queer Migrant Pride, Queer Migrations Festival, Kew Gardens, Queer Britain, Gays the Word Bookshop, a storytelling workshop, T-shirt design and zine making.
Our members come from many different countries and represent all parts of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow. The group provides an essential safe space to connect with others, creatively express identity and feelings and heal together.
We are currently working on creative work to share, which will include poetry and a zine. We always have options to share work anonymously and without sharing names, images or voices.
